ABOUT US

Tucked away amid tall Florida pine trees, St. Peter’s church opened its doors on February 9th, 1898. Lovingly built in the village of Narcoossee by English settlers, the church thrived until 1920 when, due to the population dwindling to just two families, its doors were closed and it lay dormant for the next ten years.

Five miles away, the City of St. Cloud was founded in 1909 and promoted as the ideal settlement for Union Civil War and Spanish American War veterans and their families. In the ensuing years, the Episcopal faith was celebrated at people’s houses and in various other locations until, in 1915, St. Luke’s Mission was formed and admitted into the Mission District of Southern Florida, and their Guild Hall on Florida Avenue was consecrated in 1921.

Fast forward to 1930 when the flock had outgrown the Guild Hall and it was decided to move the dormant St. Peter’s Church from Narcoossee to join with St. Luke’s Mission in St. Cloud. A contract was made, and St. Peter’s Church was dismantled board by board and reconstructed. And so. On May 17th, 1931, the Church of St. Luke & St. Peter was formed.

In 1970 the entire complex was moved from Florida Avenue to Illinois Avenue and became an official parish of the Diocese of Central Florida in 1980. However, once again the congregation outgrew the facility and in December, 1991, the first service, a wedding, was held in a newly-built church on a 15-acre tract of land two miles south of the city center on Canoe Creek Road.

Now, thirty years later, we are a joyful, close-knit Christian family from many different countries, who worship together, work together, and care for each other. We also warmly welcome visitors and new friends who seek the fellowship of loving Christians.

We use the Nicene and Apostles' Creed of the Church as statements of our orthodox faith. We administer the Great Sacraments of the Gospels- Holy Baptism and Holy Eucharist and recognize the unbroken apostolic succession through the lineage of Bishops.
